About MYB

Thirteen years ago, a group of Melrose residents interested in the arts decided to give Northshore dancers an opportunity to perform in a full-length production of The Nutcracker. After one year of fund raising efforts in the community, a Board of Directors was formed and enough money was raised to pay for the stunning scenery and costumes that make The Nutcracker so special.

In December of 1995, MYB put on its first production. This classic ballet has been staged annually at the Melrose Memorial Hall in the 12 years following its debut. Approximately 100 to 150 dancers from surrounding communities enrolled in various dance school participate each year. As MYB strives to maintain a friendly, community-driven environment for its participants, it also offers an outlet for professional dancers to perform. Each year, a few professional ballet dancers perform with MYB; some traveling great distances.

Over the years, several Artistic Directors have led MYB's production of The Nutcracker. Credits include, Terry Fox, Tamlyn Bernhausen, Alfonso Figuera, Katie Pesce, and currently, Jaclyn Capozzi.
